What is a stalk control?

If you're looking to replace your car radio with a new aftermarket stereo then you'll most likely need some form of wiring loom to ensure everything plugs together without cutting any wires. The basic way to do this is with an ISO lead which will power the unit, connect the factory speakers and allow full function using the stereo controls. However, if you want to retain the separate stalk or steering wheel controls of your car then you require a stalk adaptor lead.

As with most car wiring the various plugs and connectors are specific to a manufacturer, model and year. To find out which connector is suitable for your vehicle you should begin by using our vehicle product finder or registration lookup. With any luck your particular vehicle will only display one possible stalk adaptor making the choice easy. However some vehicle models can be fitted with a variety of wiring connectors or audio systems making it difficult to pinpoint exactly which will fit. In these instances it is important to check the descriptions of the various stalk controls and see where they differ. If they are for different audio systems then pick the one that fits the system you have in the vehicle. If the connectors are different then you will need to pop the factory stereo out of your car and manually check which one will plug in.

In addition to the stalk control you will require a patch lead specific to the make of aftermarket headunit you are fitting. NB - You may notice products with the same part number just one has an A on the end. These have the same connectors and work with the same audio systems, they differ because they come from different factories. We take supply from both to ensure we can provide solutions for as many vehicles as possible, each factory filling the gaps in the others range.
