Bass is much harder to amplify than anything else on the sound spectrum. It is also hard to live without if you are used to a powerful car or home audio system. Fortunately, there are many powerful marine subwoofer amplifiers out there dedicated solely to reproducing bass.
Below is a “rough guide” to adding sub power:
- Standard Factory Stereo — 50 to 200 watts RMS of power for the bass.
- Aftermarket Stereo — you may want to have between 200 to 300 watts RMS for the subwoofer.
- Amplified System with around 50 watts RMS per speaker channel — plan on 250 to 500 watts RMS for the bass.
- Amplified System with 100 watts RMS per speaker channel (or higher)— we recommend at least 1000 watts RMS for your subwoofer.
It is absolutely essential to match the mono amp and subwoofer before you order either one.
